A few days later I went to my mechanic in Howell to see if what I was told was true and to get a real quote to fix the sensors. My mechanic was angry when he saw the the Mastercraft technician had made two fresh cuts to two sensors. He showed me as well. The sensors didn't go bad, the Mastercraft mechanic/manager cut the wires. He cut them at the base too so they couldn't be repaired. My Mechanic told me, it's what they do. This guy literally pulled a slight of hand. He made sure I was in the garage so, I couldn't say, "you cut the sensor wires" as he would just say, "you were in here the whole time". he kept rambling to keep me distracted. He cut the wires to get additional business and gauge me by charging $700 - $800 more than my mechanic quoted me to fix the damage Mastercraft intentionally did to my vehicle. Be careful of a mechanic hires someone to dress like a chicken and dance around on Route 9 advertising oil changes at prices to good to be true. They just want to get you in the door so they can try and bend you over. I now go to Howell for all work to our vehicles and yes, oil changes too. I go to a very trustworthy mechanic in Howell who used to work for a dealer and had to quit because he was tired of being forced to lie to people by management. He saw the dirty tricks and price gauging and bad advice given to customers for too long. He quit and opened up shop out of his garage at home to do honest and honorable business. I just had my mechanic look at my car for a check engine light that came on. He ran the diagnostic and it was an oxygen sensor. No big deal, I was broke so, I decided not to fix it. My mechanic said it could wait. I went to the location in Waretown, NJ for an oil change as they had a sign posted for $16.95. You can't beat that and it saved me a trip to Howell. This proved to be a mistake. the mechanic who claimed to be the manager of this Mastercraft pulled my car into the garage for an oil change and brought me in and we talked while he worked. He did the oil change and chatted up a storm while he did the work. He then proceeded to run a diagnostic free of charge of course and when all was done I paid my $16.95 plus tax and received a quote for over $1200. Now in addition to the oxygen sensor, there were two other sensors that needed to be replaced according to this mechanic / manager. I gasped and said "thanks but, no thanks" as my wife and I lost everything in the economic downturn and live on peanuts like most of us do nowadays.
